A Two-Minute Easter Table Craft: Toilet Tube Egg Holders!

I’m back again with my favorite craft material, toilet tubes! I made these three different egg holders for an IG Live yesterday and I got a few inquiries for the how-to so I thought I’d throw together this quick post to show you how to make these easy egg holders! Please forgive that they are a little messy!

I originally made these little people egg holders after making the toilet tube egg “basket” below. As I was cutting up tubes to make them, the cardboard strips looked like arms! This one is a painted version of the holders above.

These little mini baskets take no time to make. They’re great for displaying your decorated eggs or you can make placecard eggs as we did last year on these plastic “chalkboard” eggs. We painted some stripes and dots on them.

To make the baskets or the people, make a cut down the side of a tube, about 2/3 of the way down. Then make another cut parallel to that so you create a strip about 1/2” wide. Do the same on the other side and then cut out the large pieces in between those strips. The strips will become arms or the basket handle.
- For the basket: use white glue to attach the two ends of the strips. If the strips need help to bend, you can run them against a table edge to soften the cardboard.
- For people holders: bend the arms into whatever position you’d like. You can bend a small section at the end of the strips to make hands. For hands-on-the-hips, use glue or a Glue Dot too attach a “hand” to the tube. You can draw or paint on shirt details like a collar or buttons.

A few years ago, my sister-in-law made grassy egg holders out of green construction paper that she rolled into a tube; so cute! This toilet tube version is a nice because the cardboard is sturdy so we’ve been able to reuse them from year to year. Paint a toilet tube (or a paper towel tube) green. (Optional: I like to paint the tubes with gesso/primer first which helps your paint color to look much brighter) After it dries, cut it in half and then cut the messy cut side of the tube into grassy spears but cutting at alternate angles. You can also use these to display your decorated eggs or for egg placecards!
